When I was first designing a new box for playing cards, I came across bamboo as a material to consider.

It is an amazing product, highly sustainable, it can be grown on low grade agricultural land and, most importantly, is an effective

climate change mitigation and carbon capture crop.

Our boxes are made in Vietnam over a long period of time, which takes some planning! But allows for each box to be handmade in bamboo (by

a small family in Hanoi) and then expertly lacquered. South East Asia has a long history of lacquer work, going back centuries.

When the boxes are finally ready, they take ‘the slow boat home’ to Bridge in the Box.
